West Fork of Oak Creek Trail

West Fork Trail is touted to be one of the best trails in Arizona and one of the top 10 trails in the United States.    The trail is approximately 6 miles round trip and is rated easy.  Although, there are a few areas where short uphill stepping stones are used.  There are also numerous stream crossings (at least 13) which are done with stepping stones and logs. View Slide Show of Stream Crossings  At the end of the trail a pool of water surrounded by cliffs is encountered.  Passage from this point requires wading in water.  It is possible to travel another 11 miles upstream requires boulder hopping, wading and even some swimming.  This extended hike is an overnight adventure.

The trail is located in the "Call of the Canyon" recreational area, 9.5 miles from downtown Sedona (between mileposts 385 and 384).  Takes Hwy 89A north along Oak Creek Canyon, pass Slide Rock State Park.   The recreational area and trailhead will be on your left.

The "Call of the Canyon Recreational Area" (including West Fork Trail) is a fee area.  The 2023 charge (may change) for the day is $11 per vehicle (up to 5 people), walk-ins and bicycles are charged $3.00 per person. The WEEKLY Red Rock Pass and the GRAND ANNUAL Red Rock Pass are no longer accepted.
